Sustainability
Our commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable practices
Materials Sourcing
Every component of our grow kits is carefully selected for its environmental impact and sustainability credentials. We work exclusively with suppliers who share our commitment to responsible sourcing.
Our substrate is made from agricultural waste products—sawdust from certified sustainable forestry operations, agricultural straw, and other organic byproducts that would otherwise go to waste. This approach transforms waste into valuable growing medium.
We prioritize local sourcing whenever possible, reducing transportation emissions and supporting regional agricultural communities. Our partnerships with Finnish farms ensure fresh, high-quality materials while minimizing our carbon footprint.
All spawn used in our kits comes from certified organic producers who maintain strict quality standards. This ensures not only the health of your mushrooms but also supports sustainable agricultural practices throughout the supply chain.
Packaging Breakdown
Packaging represents one of the biggest challenges in e-commerce, and we've taken significant steps to minimize our environmental impact while ensuring your kits arrive safely.
Outer Packaging
All shipping boxes are made from 100% recycled cardboard, certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. These boxes are fully recyclable and can be composted if not contaminated with adhesives.
Protective Materials
Instead of plastic bubble wrap or foam peanuts, we use shredded paper from our own operations and mushroom-based packaging materials where appropriate. These materials are biodegradable and can be added directly to your compost.
Grow Kit Containers
The containers holding your substrate are made from recycled plastic or biodegradable materials, depending on the kit type. All containers are designed to be reusable or fully compostable after use.
Labels and Instructions
All printed materials use soy-based inks on recycled paper. Instructions are also available digitally to reduce paper waste for customers who prefer that option.
Farm Partnerships
Our relationships with local farms form the foundation of our sustainable business model. These partnerships benefit everyone involved—farmers, customers, and the environment.
We work with small-scale organic farms throughout Finland, providing them with a reliable market for their agricultural byproducts. This creates additional revenue streams for farmers while reducing waste.
These partnerships allow us to maintain complete traceability from farm to your home. We know exactly where our materials come from and can verify their organic and sustainable credentials.
Beyond material sourcing, we collaborate with farms on research and development projects aimed at improving cultivation techniques and reducing environmental impact. This collaborative approach drives innovation in sustainable mushroom cultivation.
By supporting local agriculture, we're contributing to food security and rural economic development while maintaining the highest standards of quality and sustainability.
Composting Instructions
After harvesting your mushrooms, the spent substrate becomes a valuable resource for your garden or compost pile. Here's how to make the most of it.
Preparation
Break up the substrate into smaller pieces to speed decomposition.
Remove any remaining mushroom material and break the substrate into chunks no larger than 5cm. This increases surface area and accelerates the composting process.
Mixing
Combine with other organic materials for balanced compost.
Mix the substrate with equal parts brown materials (dry leaves, straw) and green materials (kitchen scraps, grass clippings). The mushroom substrate acts as an excellent activator, speeding up decomposition.
Maintenance
Keep the pile moist and turn regularly for best results.
Maintain moisture levels similar to a wrung-out sponge. Turn the pile every 2-3 weeks to aerate and distribute materials evenly. The compost should be ready in 2-3 months.
Usage
Use finished compost to enrich garden soil naturally.
Once fully decomposed, the compost can be used as a soil amendment, mulch, or potting mix component. It's rich in organic matter and beneficial microorganisms that improve soil health.
Our Eco Journey
Founding Principles
From day one, sustainability has been at the core of our mission. We started with a simple question: how can we make gourmet mushroom cultivation accessible while minimizing environmental impact?
Local Partnerships
We established our first partnerships with Finnish organic farms, creating a closed-loop system that transforms agricultural waste into valuable growing medium.
Packaging Innovation
We eliminated all single-use plastics from our packaging, switching to 100% recycled and biodegradable materials. This reduced our packaging waste by over 90%.
Carbon Neutral Shipping
We offset all shipping emissions through verified carbon offset programs, making every order carbon neutral from our facility to your door.
Ongoing Commitment
We continue to innovate and improve our practices, regularly auditing our supply chain and seeking new ways to reduce our environmental footprint.
